But the worst enemy you can meet will always be yourself; you lie in wait for yourself in caverns and forests. Lonely one, you are going the way to yourself! And your way goes past yourself, and past your seven devils! You will be a heretic to yourself and witch and soothsayer and fool and doubter and unholy one and villain. You must be ready to burn yourself in your own flame: how could you become new, if you had not first become ashes?
Yes, yes, yes! I have such vivid memories of sitting in my bedroom that I shared with my brother listening to Nebraska in the dark with headphones. That howl and the end of State Trooper would scare the shit out of me. Great writing on one of my favorite albums of all time. I will check out your friends article.
What can I say? Your words, your storytelling is so spot-on, so clear, so visual. I see everything you describe with my own camera eye/imagination as if they were my own memories. Once again, I am awed by your facility with the written word. Bravo, my man.
I read this while listening to Se’ res by Carl Borg.as a sound track. What a great read. Again took my time. Thanks. Loved the description of Atlantic City across from Mystic Island. Always wondered what life might be like in South Jersey Shore. Seems like a whole other state south of LBI. My mom was from Pa so it made sense that she spend her colleg summers off down there on the beach. Well I will go back aid finish the last few chapters of this well written post. And listen to the BS song too: hey no offense to Bruce Springsteen! Thanks
Atlantic City

Brilliant, as always. I'm saddened though that you missed a golden opportunity to riff on the following: I WANT MY TWO DOLLARS!
